I had the strangest dream last night. I was talking to God about some of the stupid things I've done in my life and how I wish I could start over with the knowledge I now have. He said "instead of starting over, how about I give you the opportunity to 'do over' 20 instances in your life that you wish you had handled differently". I was elated and asked if I could have some time to make my choices and, of course, He said yes.

The rest of the dream was the worse struggle I have ever encountered. I sat down (at the computer, of course) and started making a list of those moments in my life that bother me and I wish I had handled in a different way. As my list reached 100 and then 200 items, I realized that there was no way I could choose just 20 and started working on talking God into increasing the number he offered me.

The items were mostly small things...a poorly constructed or thought out statement, a harsh word to someone, a white lie I wish I hadn't told etc. But all are in my head (some for years and years) and some nights I lay in bed and think about them and they loom over me like a fog. The dream ended with no resolution, just regret that I can't change the things I don't like about my past. All I can do is try not to create any more of those moments that haunt me.

Hugs,

  1. Wouldn't that be wonderful to be able to go back & change a few things. I would love to, but the main thing is that we learned from our mistakes & don't keep making the same ones. Very interesting dream...thanks for sharing!

  2. Yes, some of us do have those dreams. I think I did the same thing too. I wish we can change the thing that happened in our lives. I agree with Hollie. I love your name tag. I love that movie with J'lo and Richard Gere. Have a good day. Nancy

  3. What a cool dream. And by cool, I mean that although it was frustrating, I think your mind was trying to tell you something. When you tried to make your list of 20, you found out that it was a futile effort--you couldn't decide and narrow them down. So you know it's impossible to get do-overs, and to decide on which things you'd do over. Your mind is telling you to not dwell on the mistakes you've made, but to understand the mistakes and not do them again. No more worry or regrets. The past is in the past.

That's my take on it, anyway! :)

  4. Wow, interesting dream. I wouldn't mind one like that.
We can't beat ourselves up for things in the past that we didnt' handle correctly. All we can do is ask God to forgive us and try to be a better person.
We have all had behavior that we aren't proud of.
Give yourself closure on this one..

  5. Remember the serenity prayer. I know you know it. I live by that completely. I may not always be "serene" but that's not the point of the prayer :)

  6. This could be a lesson for all of us. I am sure we could all come up with at least 20 things we wish we could change. Thanks for the wake up call. Also, it's nice to have you blogging again.

ps I also like the tag

  7. ...and ask Him for forgiveness, then never think on them again. It took me years to learn that. You wouldn't believe the freedom :)
    Much love,

  8. Dreams sometimes reveal our intermost thoughts and feelings. I know I sure have made mistakes in the past, but I know I learned alot from them. And never make the same mistake twice is my motto.

  10. I can only imagine how 'unsettling' the dream was. But, sometimes dreams in their own way bring tothe surface unresolved issues you may stilll be able to rectify.

    Love ya hun...
