Snow, food, prayer request and an update

I just wanted to send some snowy wishes to all you who are looking into a white weekend. I can't believe this weather for November. It feels more like January or February here. Our high today is only 38 (normal would be upper 50's) and low tonight in the teens. Can you say Brrrrrrr. It fools you when you look outside at the bright sunshine, but I got a reality check when I went out to take the trash. I am definately a warm weather person...lol.
A couple of my friends (from where I used to work) and I have been trying set up a lunch or dinner date forever. Something always seems to come up and today is not exception. My good friend called me from the airport in Nashville to tell me her nephew was in a serious auto accident and they don't have much hope for survival. It's bad when anyone is hurt, but seems so much worse when it's a young person AND around the holidays. Anyway, if anyone prays please remember Trudy's nephew.
I'm so grateful for my children and grandchildren. They are all healthy and we will all be together for Thanksgiving and Christmas. What a blessing that is. We are few in number (compared to most families who were raised here) but we love each other and we always enjoy the holidays together. Since I gave up my house for this small apartment, my daughter has taken over as hostess to both holiday gatherings. Of course, we all bring something and I still cook a great deal of the dinner. It's pretty convenient since I just live a few doors away. My oldest son always does the pumpkin pie and the cole slaw. He likes the kitchen...lol. I will do the veggie casseroles and yams and daughter will do the turkey and stuffing and rolls. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Are you doing dinner at your house? Do you cook for a crowd or just a few?
I guess I will end this with a happy thought... my back is doing sooooo much better. I can't tell you how happy that makes me. I will probably go for the second injection just to be safe but I think I'm good to go for a while. And Giz is doing great. She is leaving the incision alone so far. Hope she continues to do that until we get the stiches out next Wednesday. Have a great weekend.
Hugs, Joyce

  1. I'm so sorry about your friend's nephew. That is so terrible. I can't even imagine. Prayers going out to them.
I'm so happy your back is doing better. Yes go get the other injection as hopefully that will make you better for awhile longer.
I'm so happy that your daughter chose to take over the dinners. That is always so nice to still have some place to meet. For me being together is all I care about.
I still do the dinners, but Thanksgiving is at my house on the weekend because my kids work different shifts. Then Christmas we usually have at my daughter's house because my grandson wants to play with all his gifts and we enjoy watching so since he is the only one we all meet at their house, but I do all the cooking still. Son helps sometimes with dressing.
It's very cold here too. About 37 is as high as we get when were lucky and the lows have been down in the teens.
Hope you have a great weekend.

  3. I woke up to 29 degrees in S.E. PA, but it is now around 38degrees. Snow came and went. Feels good to breathe the brisk air.

I do the cooking for Thanksgiving and then take it up to my mother's apartment where 20 of us gather for an eating marathon beginning on Thursday and ending on Sunday. Many of the folks are from out of town, so we gather and eat at mom's.

So sorry to hear of your friend's loss. Terrible news, so tragic.

  4. Very sad about your friend's nephew. I will pray for him and their entire family.

So glad to hear your back is doing well! Just in time to spend lots of time standing in the kitchen! ;) It's great that you all pitch in for dinner. That's what my family does, too.

This year, we're heading down to Missouri to spend a few days with Ken's mom and stepdad over Thanksgiving, so it will be a little smaller gathering. Hopefully the weather will be a little milder, too!

    Hugs, Beth

  6. It's a good thing that your back is so much better. Now you can enjoy Thanksgiving more. I do hope your friend's nephew recovers. I'm sure we'll do the usual turkey, etc. I don't really "plan" anything in particular and have no idea who will show up. Take care :)......

  7. Sorry about your friend's nephew. Praying for a miracle. My daughter invited us for Thanksgiving but its 3 1/2 or 4 hours away so I declined as the daughter who was coming to pick us up has had so many problems just recently I don't want to add to it. I don't think my back is up to riding that far either. Think we are going to plan on just the three of us getting together for my birthday in July like we did two years ago. We had so much fun. Enjoy your holiday.
