A book, a haircut and Tara the elephant...

It's the weekend and it is back in the 60's here, but very gray out. We are supposed to get thunder storms this afternoon and tomorrow. Can't say I mind that too much as long as I don't have to get out in it. There is nothing like a good storm and a good book and a lazy day.

Speaking of good books, I finally finished "Cross Country" by James Patterson. I can't remember who asked about it but here is what I thought. There is just no way Patterson can write a bad book. This one is no exception. It's full of action and surprises and, as usual, a surprise ending. The only complaint I have about it is that most of the story takes place in Africa with Alex Cross hunting a very bad serial killer. To me that takes away from the whole Alex Cross family thing. I feel like I know his children and his grandmother, not to mention his best friend and current girlfriend. How funny is that. That group plays a very, very small part in this story. That being said, yes I liked the book and it held my attention right to the end. It is, of course, a must read for all you Patterson fans. Now I'm reading "Scarpetta" by Patricial Cornwell. It's a pretty thick book and I'm a slow reader soooo. BTW, Patterson has two more books coming out. One in February and one is April. The April one is a new "Woman's Murder Club" book. I have already pre-ordered both.

Yesterday my daughter and I went and had our hair cut. For me it was just another haircut but for Vicki it was the end of the long hair look. They pulled her hair back in a pony tail and cut it off for "Locks of Love". If you are not familiar with this organization...they make hair pieces for cancer children. Anyway, she loves her new doo and so do I. Her goal for this year is to get back into shape and remake her look. The haircut was a great start and she looks beautiful. Of course, I'm prejudice. lol.

If you missed CBS evening news last night...they did a segment about our elephant sanctuary. It was the story of Tara the elephant and Bella the doggie and their great attachment to one another. It was a wonderful piece and I'm so proud to be a contributor to the sanctuary. You can read about it at
www.elephants.com.

Hugs, Joyce

  3. I'm a slow reader too. If it is a good book I like to make it last unlike most people who can't wait to see what is going to happen. I looked up that elephant site and it was interesting. Thanks

  6. Hi Joyce. I watched the segment on Tara and Bella. That was amazing how that elephant hung around where the dog was recuperating. Wish I could get into reading other than this pc but then I'm spoiled; I don't have to hold up a book:)hehehehe

  9. that was the cutest story about Tarra and Bella Joyce! I started getting tears in my eyes when they were separated when Bella had those spinal cord problems; I was so thankful that she made a full recovery and was able to resume playing with Tarra; I think it is so neat that there is a sanctuary like this for elephants; looks like a nice one too with lots of room to roam!

I read one book of James Patterson with Alex Cross and I enjoyed it; I'm trying to get back into reading; what I find is that I speed read through blog entries and when I read a book, I have to force myself to slow down to enjoy the story, know what I mean? so its a good thing to pick up a book rather than sit in front of the computer for hours (guilty of that for sure)

that was neat your daughter donated her hair for locks of love! wishing her the best as she works on achieving her goals for the new year!

    betty

  11. I want a haircut too and may do that this coming week. It was sunny and warmer today, but the rains have come this evening. I love Alex Cross, but haven't read all those books. I am a very very slow reader as other things get in my way. I have been reading my poor book forever actually I think I haven't picked it up in a month since the holidays began. I need to finish it. Hope you enjoy your evening reading.
    Take care, Chrissie

  15. Hi Darlin'....I watch the video that was on the elephant sancturay site. Awwww...how wonderful! Pure Love. Although I couldn't help but wonder what is going to happen to the poor elephant when her BFF dies. Elephants live so much longer than dogs. but, it wure is great they have each other.

    hugsss...

  16. I have heard about Lock for Love a very worthy charity. I love the Alex Cross novels, and look forward to the latest when it's out in paperback very cold and frosty here too so I've just stayed in, and hibernated a little.

    Take care

  18. I like James Patterson, and that's one of his that I haven't yet read. It's raining here too, and we may get a little snow mixed in tonight. Enjoy your lazy day and good book!

  19. Love the story about Tara and Bella...Shelly (Roxymama) just adores elephants and elephant tubes. I used to read all the time but got away from it. I tend to get lost in a book and won't put it down. I was spending far too much time reading..lol..but then again, I've substituted the pc.

Both my girls have had their long hair cut and donated to Locks of Love. That's a wonderful organization. Bet your daughter looks great. Short hair is the in thing now anyway. I think it makes people look younger and cuter. Have youself a good week. HUGS
